Cumberland County – According to figures released by the Visit NC this week, domestic travel to Cumberland County generated over $490 million in expenditures in 2014 – a 3.85% increase from 2013.
Tourism expenditures in Cumberland County generated state and local tax revenues of $35.7 million, which represents a $108.39 tax saving to each county resident. Additionally Cumberland County’s tourism industry employs 4,290 people with a payroll of $89.15 million.
“Fifteen years of branding, marketing and tourism strategies have helped tourism be an economic engine for Cumberland County,” says John Meroski, Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (FACVB) president and CEO. “Tourism means business, as it all begins with a visit.”
The statistics are from the “Economic Impact of Travel on North Carolina Counties.” The study was prepared for Visit NC by the US Travel Association.
