A bipartisan veto-proof majority in the state House on Wednesday passed a budget that cuts wasteful spending, slashes taxes, and protects classroom teachers and other vital state services. It’s the first step in a new, responsible era of North Carolina state government – one that lives within its means and manages the people’s money without gouging them for higher taxes. The budget is now in the Senate, and we’re carefully examining every line item before passing it through our chamber. We are having to make tough choices, but those choices are the right ones to make – balancing the budget has massive implications for the future. Cutting spending allows us to lower taxes – putting more money in the pockets of North Carolina citizens and businesses. Ultimately, the budget is the single greatest job-creator we can offer.
